Fake people make me feel sick
Fake people make me feel sick.
PRAVEENA BHARADWAJ 1.What’s the first thing that comes to your mind when you get up in the morning?
Tea! I like to pick up my cup, go in search of my parents and then sit down with them for an early morning chat. But if I’m shooting, it’s all a big rush. Then I head straight for the bathroom, read the newspaper there, grab my tea as I’m getting ready and zip off.
2. What’s going on in your mind right now?
I’m thinking about my next shot for Chalte Chalte. It’s a crucial scene between Shah Rukh and me and I want to get the tone of the husband-wife conflict right.
3. How would you describe yourself?
I’m a simple person who wants to lead a simple life in the complex world of cinema. I know this is difficult because life can get pretty complicated here. But I’m not waiting anxiously for something great or dramatic to happen to me. It’s the little, little things that make me smile. I’d be happy even if someone handed me a glass of water.
4. What’s the motto you live by?
Live life to the fullest. Never hurt anyone and concentrate on creating love and laughter.
5.When did you last laugh till you cried?
It was a very poignant moment. We were talking about my cousin Nemi, who recently passed away, recalling how much he used to make us laugh. We remembered his jokes and chuckled at them, only to end up sobbing when the realisation struck that he’s no longer with us.
6.Does commitment scare you?
Not at all. Because the level of your commitment reflects your involvement and confidence. You can’t be a coward and run away. You have to be committed to whatever you do in life.
7. What’s the naughtiest thing you did in school?
Nothing that you can really describe as naughty. I was a very obedient child…. unlike the way I am now!
8.Can you tell us three unknown facts about yourself?
I’m very lazy and laid-back, have a terrible temper and can bake amazing cakes.
9. How old were you when you fell in love for the first time?
I think I was 11 or 12. Please don’t ask me the name of the person because he is married now. Quite sad, no?
10.Which is the most beautiful part of your body?
My heart. Those close to me feel I have a heart of gold.
11.What’s the most expensive thing you’ve bought for yourself?
My car. Nothing else has been as expensive.
12.If you had to make an apology, to whom would it be?
To my mother, for being such a brat with her at times. She’s the one person I can boss around. I can say what I want to her, irrespective of whether she’ll feel good or bad about it.
13.Which three things about your man would you make sure of before you married him?
First and foremost, whether he’s going to make me and keep me happy. Second, whether he’ll give me the kind of freedom I want. And third, that he’s an honest man. Oh, please add that I’d ask him whether he’s ready to do everything to keep my family happy, because he has to take me on with my family.
14.What’s the one thing in your life you’d like to get rid of?
Fake people. They make me feel sick.
15.Who do you think is the sexiest man in the industry?
Shah Rukh Khan. My all-time favourite is Mr Amitabh
Bachchan, bur right now it’s SRK.
16.If you could change one thing about your body, what it would be?
My height. I’d give anything for a few inches more.
17. What’s the cutest thing about you?
Me, myself, the whole of me. I think I’m cute.
18.What keeps you going in a crisis?
My family. I really, really mean this and am not saying it for effect. We are a very close-kniht family–Mom, Dad, my brother Raja, my sister-in-law Jyoti and me. We’re always together, crisis or no crisis.
19.What’s the cheapest gift you’ve ever got?
A gift is a gift. All my gifts are precious to me.
20.Are you a better actress on-screen or off-screen?
On-screen of course. Acting is only for the screen, not for real life. In fact, I find it difficult to act off- screen.
21.When and where were you most embarrassed?
I’m embarrassed whenever I see myself on screen. Because all those emotions are forced, not real. They make me squirm.
22.When did you last feel utterly insignificant?
I feel that way whenever I’m at a height–in a skyscraper, plane atop a mountain. When I look down, I feel we are such small creatures, almost nothing. The problem is that we give ourselves too much importance.
23.If your dream man and you were stuck on a lonely island, what would you do?
I’ll call the dream unitwallahs and ask them to shoot a song on that very location–for our eyes only.
24.Have you ever been caught red-handed?
All the time. Whenever I try to do something without my mother’s knowledge, she invariably gets to know. For instance, I love cooking but my parents get hyper if I go anywhere near the stove. Once, while they were sleeping, I started making kheer. When they woke up and found me in the kitchen, not only did they scream the house down, I got one solid whack too.
25.What’s the worst thing you’ve heard about yourself?
There are too many of them for me to pick from. If I get started on all the scandals surrounding me, the list would go on and on.
26.Which lyrics truly mean something to you?
The title song of Kuch Kuch Hota Hai–Tum paas aaye, Yun muskuraaye, Tum ne na jaane kya sapne dikhaye, Ab to mera dil jaage na sota hai, Kya karun hai, Kuch kuch hota hai…
27.Which book do you read most often?
Sorry, I’m not fond of reading at all.
28.What’s the worst thing about being an actress?
That you have to act constantly, in reel life and real life. To the extent that you start asking yourself, am I acting or am I my normal self?
29.Do you believe in God?
Oh yes. He is the Almighty. He is everyhere. He keeps an eye on us constantly. I fear Him.
30.Which is the best compliment you’ve ever received?
“Beti ho to Rani jaisi.” Elderly people often say this after watching me interact with my parents.
31.Which has been your most memorable holiday?
After my brother got married, we all went to Goa for a holiday. That was really good fun.
32.What do you joke about often?
What else but myself! I love to pull my own leg so that others don’t. If you want to be happy, you should have the ablity to laugh at yourself.
34.What is your idea of a perfect, romantic day?
Spending time with the person I love. We could be in Switzerland… or anywhere else for that matter.
35.If love is immortal, what is lust?
Lust is momentary, love is ever lasting.
36.What can’t you do without?
My parents. I need them always by my side.
37.When did you last fight and with whom?
Just yesterday I had a fight with my mom but then we have arguments practically every day. Actually, fights between mothers and daughters are not really serious because both know they can’t do without each other.
38.The best food you’ve ever had?
The daal chawal in my house–it’s really out of this world.
39. What’s the weirdest thing you’ve put in your mouth?
Artificial blood during action scenes. Sometimes it’s coloured water and sometimes cough syrup–uuuughhhh!
40.Which phone call will you always remember?
I was in Kolkata a couple of months ago because my cousin was very ill. I was praying for him, but could find no solace at all. I was so disturbed that I called up an aunt of mine in Mumbai to whom I’m very close. She read out the whole Novena to me that day and that really gave me the strength to face the reality
